Welcome

The Yama Ki Bonsai Society was formed in 1973 by a group of individuals with a mutual interest in bonsai. Its purpose was to foster a forum for discussion and education on bonsai for people living in Westchester County, NY and Fairfield County, CT. The club's name "Yama Ki" means "Mountain Tree".

Meetings are usually held at the Bartlett Arboretum in Stamford, Connecticut, occasionally at member homes, and on outings. Programs scheduled throughout the year offer a variety of topics related to bonsai and include lectures, demonstrations, workshops and other activities designed to help the novice as well as appeal to the more experienced bonsai enthusiast.

Please feel free to attend any meeting or outing listed in our club newsletter. Reading our newsletters is the best way to learn about bonsai and to get to know the people of Yama Ki. It is also the best place to look for upcoming meeting information.

NEWS

MIDATLANTIC BONSAI SOCIETIES

MABS celebrated its 25 anniversary last month and YAMA KI supported the event with a terrific turnout.
If you came to our own April meeting, you met Mr. Min Hsuan Lo who was the headliner and learned at close-hand
why he deserved the spot. Graham Potter. Michael Hagedorn, and George LeBolt, all who had previously
lectured / demonstrated for us, rounded out the presenters. YAMA KI submitted three trees in the Exhibit Room
– and you may congratulate Rupen Kiskanyan for with his as the best in show award as judged by the MABS Exhibit
Committee.

As with any new venue, there were some facilities’ wrinkles and some advantages. Our attendees have come
up with a carefully thought out critique of the event which your MABS delegates will present to its full Board.
The 2009 MABS Spring Festival is scheduled for April 16-18, 2009. Mark your calendars now!

Michael Hagedorn's Presentation on Bonsai Display

Mike Pollock, Gail Therrien, and Norm Geisinger submitted detailed memoranda on Michael Hagedorn’s presentation of an interactive, in-depth program on bonsai display. For a summary of the meeting, see the March 2008 newsletter.
